NOTICE OF PROPOSED RENEWALOF A MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE LANDFILL PERMIT UNDER THE ALABAMA SOLID WASTES AND RECYCLABLE MATERIALS MANAGEMENT ACT AND REQUEST FOR COMMENTS

Big Sky Environmental, LLC has applied for a permit to continue to operate a municipal solid waste landfill known as the Big Sky Environmental, LLC Solid Waste Facility (Permit 37-48).  All conditions of the current permit for the Big Sky Environmental, LLC Solid Waste Facility including previously approved variances and special conditions would be granted in the renewed permit.

The Big Sky Environmental, LLC Solid Waste Facility is located in part of Section 18 and 19, Township 16 South, Range 4 West and Sections 13, 14, 23 and 24, Township 16 South, Range 5 West in Jefferson County, Alabama.  The Big Sky Environmental, LLC Solid Waste Facility consists of 1,522.7 acres, with a municipal solid waste disposal area of 66.24 acres and a construction and demolition waste disposal area of 95 acres.

Copies of the public notice and proposed permit are available for public inspection electronically via the ADEM web site at http://adem.alabama.gov/newsEvents/pubHearings.cnt, and the complete application at the following location Monday – Friday (except legal holidays), 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  A nominal fee for copying and/or mailing may be charged.  Arrangements for copying should be made in advance.

The Department has scheduled a public hearing to receive oral comments to be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, in the Kemp Building located at 4819 Main Street, Adamsville, Alabama 35005 at 6 PM.

Persons wishing to comment may do so, in writing, to the Department's named contact above by 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 1, 2018.  In order to affect final decisions, comments must offer technically substantial information that is applicable to the proposed permit.

After consideration of all written comments, review of any public hearing record, and consideration of the requirements of the Alabama Solid Wastes and Recyclable Materials Management Act, and applicable regulations, the Department will make a final determination.  The Department will develop a response to comments, which will become part of the public record and will be available to persons upon request.  Notice will be sent to any person requesting notice of the final action.
